DRESSING YOUR TRUTH was invented by a woman named Carol Tuttle. This is a really cool idea for anyone to try. It targets who we are on the inside to be able to find what works for us on the outside.

She found 4 types:

Type 1 – Bright and Animated

Type 2 – Soft and Subtle

Type 3 – Rich and Dynamic

Type 4 – Bold and Striking

You can really see and understand other people as well as yourself using her system. I learned that my husband is a bright and animated Type 1. The things he did during our history together now makes sense to me. He is a people person and finds it relaxing hanging out with others, and is always making sure people “have a great time.” So this system helped me to accept who he is. Also accepting his need to want to wear animated Hawaiian shirts for fun and attention…

I am a definite Type 2. When I read her book, much of the type 2 description made perfect sense to me. I was labelled shy growing up, I did the “stretch test” every time I went in the dressing room, my clothes need to flow with me not against me (that’s why I always went for the stretch-waist), I can see flowy lines in my drawings, and I am very detailed when I relay stories and dreams to people, so it can come across as amazing and annoying to them.

By watching all the videos on her website, my knowing that I am a Type 2 was confirmed as I realized it is how your energy is felt on the inside. Internally I feel calm, not needing to rush through things. I like to be prepared as best as I can, therefore I don’t like it when my plans change (which is a challenge with a Type 1 husband). I don’t like to weigh myself down (via large purses and such). It’s so fascinating this system!

I have looked at the 5 Elements Tuttle talks about with the clothing choices for Type 2s. I HAVE been trying to incorporate them into my style. The muted grey colors make perfect sense for my blended features. The patterns are what I would do if I had patterns, because they are subtle and don’t attract attention. But because some of the elements of this style brings out my vulnerability with certain clothes like dresses, I can’t fully embrace it.

In conclusion, this is another way to help our wardrobe be more defined, as well as learning about and accepting other people for who they are.
