I don’t claim to be knowledgeable about body types, but this is what I have come across and have understood.
There seem to be 4 types: Hourglass, Inverted Triangle, Triangle/Teardrop, and Apple.
There is measuring involved to compare the width of your shoulders compared to your waist and hips.
I have gone between the hourglass and the teardrop. After pregnancy, it has now gone to the teardrop haha! But the other thing these types didn’t show me was the torso and leg lengths! I had to learn that separately.
For the Torso Lengths we have: Short Torso and Long Legs, Long Torso and Short Legs, or Balanced.
I had to use my hands to measure from my ribs down to the belly button to measure/determine it. I am definitely a Short Torso with Long Legs. And being 5’1″ I am on the petite/short side.
Learning these two measurements of the body, helps to figure out what would look best on us with balancing/proportioning out our clothes. In addition, you would have to consider anything else on your body that you notice would impact it. For me, I notice I have broad shoulders, so my chest looks wide. I also have the bubble butt embarrassingly enough!
So knowing of the teardrop and short torso with long legs, it’s still difficult because many of the suggestions do not resonate with me. But I have tried: dark bottoms which work great, but doesn’t feel like a lot of options. I have always worn bootcut, but kept forgetting I am petite, so the bottom of my pants looked frumpy against my sneakers (because I have the long legs, but in the petite department haha). I love the tuck-in-your-shirt look but if I did that, it would cut me in half and make me bigger than I really am (because I am a short-torso)! With the broad shoulders…I would need to cut that with a third garment like a jacket or cardigan with the vertical open-front line (because I don’t like the V-neck and cleavage). The analyzations go on…but these are good things to figure out to improve the look!
Check out these measurements for your body! This is another element that can help you learn about you and what works.
