Minimalism was and is the coolest thing I ever learned about.
I collected things over the years growing up. We never moved and we went someplace fun once or twice a year, which was fine because we were homebodies as a family! My collections DID add up, but my room was always clean and organized. I took great care of my things. We did declutter once in a while too!
Upon returning from college, I moved in with my now husband, in our first apartment. I left my sentimental things back home. After a year, we were forced to move out and back with our families because they needed the building. Knowing I would eventually move out all my things from my bedroom at some point, I began looking more into minimalism.
Minimalism is very refreshing! Clutter-free countertops, everything has a home, and all our things are used and enjoyed. Same goes for our digital clutter. Get rid of anything extra that isn’t as important.
The first thing I got rid of that didn’t hold much sentimental value to me was my box of CARDS I received over the years. Birthdays, Christmas, etc.
I felt obligated to keep them because people spent money on them to give to me! I went through them to confirm my decision and enjoy them before I toss them. Once I threw them out, it felt good and my room began to feel less full. The burden was lifted. No one else keeps cards unless it holds a lot of meaning to them, so why should I?
Going-forward I have been enjoying them by displaying them, and when the season of the card is done I throw it!
